Team SouthWest Comes Up Short in Gold Medal Game

The Cinderella run for Team SouthWest male basketball team came to a disappointing end as they settled for the silver medal at the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games in Lloydminster.

Team SouthWest fell 68 - 53 in the gold medal final to Team Regina. A team they had defeated in earlier tournament play.

After four consecutive victories, Team SouthWest’s Boys Basketball team, which consists of eight Moose Javians, came up short in their bid to capture Gold for the region.

Team SouthWest headed into the provincial games final after three strong wins in the group stage and then eliminated Saskatoon in Friday’s semi-final.

In game one Team SouthWest defeated Team Parkland Valley 82 - 47.

In their second game on Thursday Team SouthWest defeated Team Prairie Central 77 - 48.

Game Three of the group stage saw Team SouthWest defeat Team Regina 71 - 62.

Team SouthWest eliminated Team Saskatoon 82 - 57.

The final match, which took place on Saturday, at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School, ended in favour of Regina, the Gold Medal winners.

Team Regina defeated Team SouthWest  68 - 53 to capture the gold medal.

Dylan Ward lead Team SouthWest with 14 points in the gold medal game.
