Ten Questions - All About CineView
With the Saskatchewan Festival of Words set to launch its second half of this season’s CineView we asked ten questions of Amanda Farnel Operations Coordinator at the Saskatchewan Festival of Words what CineView is all about.
1. What is Cineview???
Cineview is a program of the Saskatchewan Festival of Words that aims to bring foreign and independent films to Moose Jaw through a partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival.
2. How long has the Saskatchewan Festival of Words put on this program?
This program has run for 20 years.
3. How does this tie into the program or mandate of the Saskatchewan Festival of Words?
The Saskatchewan Festival of Words aims to increase literacy and promote all forms of writing. People often don’t think of films in connection with literary Festivals but we want to celebrate script writing as a form of literary art too.
4. How are the films chosen to be shown in Moose Jaw?
We have a committee that meets twice a year to choose dates and films. As we are part of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Film Circuit, we can choose from any of the films that they have shown through their Festival. Every committee member comes to the meeting with their personal choices for the line-up and then the line-up is chosen.
5. Can you tell me how does CineView help expand the cultural experience in Moose Jaw?
Our theatre in Moose Jaw only brings in a small selection of the biggest films. They will bring in more independent films a while after their release if the film does well in other theatres across the country. We are able to fill in a gap in the programming so Moose Javians can choose between a wider selection of films.
6. Where are the movies shown?
At the Galaxy Cinema.
7. Do you think it is correct to say that if it wasn't for CineView most of the films shown would not likely appear on the big screen in Moose Jaw?
Yes, definitely.
8. Can you tell us what films you are showing and what, if anything, you know about them?
We are showing five films this season:
January 22 - Sometimes Always Never
Synopsis: A detective fantasy / family drama where a love of words helps a father reconnect with a missing son.
Check out the trailer for the film below.
February 5 - Parasite

9. What is the cost to attend CineView? Can a person attend just one movie or do they have to pay for the entire series?
Cineview is $10 for a ticket to one film and can be bought at the door. Passes for the whole series can be purchased at the door or ahead of time at Post Horizon Booksellers for $30.
10. What is the best thing about CineView and do you have anything to add?
The best thing about Cineview is the community that supports the program. Our audience is open to anything. Often people will buy passes without even seeing the list of films.
