New Business Brings Lab Services To The Doorstep
Seeing a need at her regular job has led Misty Shropshire to fill that need.
Starting just a few days ago Shropshire started the fully licensed and approved mobile lab services for Moose Jaw and area.
“I’m bringing the lab to them. They need an order from their doctor, a requisition, and then I will come to their homes to collect their lab and then deliver them to the hospital,” she said,
Shropshire’s Moose Jaw Mobile Lab Services offers advantages for many lab users.
“Well I work for the health authority and I take blood in outpatient areas, the laboratory and I see people who would like to get in but they have mobility issues,” she said, adding “or health concerns when they don’t want to be around a big crowd of people.”
“So I thought why not bring the lab to them?”
“I’ve seen the need and I’ve seen the elderly coming in in the winter they’ve got their canes, their walkers, they are walking in the snow on icy sidewalks. And I’m just sitting there think someone is going to fall.
Shropshire points to her own experience in collecting samples for the health authority for 13 years as evidence she has plenty of experience in the area.
The Health Authority also does mobile collection but it is something a doctor might order.
For Shropshire’s business anyone can access mobile collection sampling with a simple $25 fee.
She said the advantages of using her service is “they don’t have to go out. They don’t have to book an appointment in the lab…you don’t have to travel in inclement weather and they’re not sitting in a waiting room with sick people.”
People with poor autoimmunity or immune compromised may well benefit by not having to be in a crowd where there may well be sick people.
Another advantage is during the winter when the $25 fee is cheaper than a taxi.
Additionally, a receipt will be given to allow the service to be written off your income tax.
About working people tied up at their jobs Shropshire said “yes I can come to their jobs as well,”
At the present time she is restricted to daytime hours but is hoping to get the business operating hours to include evenings.
Presently the hours of operation are 7am to 3:30 pm Monday to Friday.
One other advantage is she is able to provide same day service unless she is too busy.
Future plans call for the potential of attend a seniors residence and collecting samples at a reduced rate.
